SOUTHERN SAFETY GROUP
Welcome!
The Southern Safety Group was formed back in 2003 and has now been reinvigorated in 2006 by
Achievable Solutions and a group of people committed to promoting workplace health and safety throughout the community. Currently a Committee oversees the development and activities of the group and keeps members informed about current OHS issues and WorkSafe Victoria.
Membership is open to any business, community organisation or individual who has an interest in health and safety.
The Southern Safety Group is one of several groups established within Victoria as a means of furthering occupational health and safety awareness to business. The need to keep abreast of occupational health and safety matters and legislation is critical to the successful running of any business as the cost of work-related accidents / illnesses and claims, coupled with fines for breaches of legislation, can seriously affect an organisation’s viability. The Southern Safety Group Safety Group endeavours to meet these needs.
The group meets on a monthly basis and generally follows the format of having a guest speaker on some aspect of occupational health and safety. A short meeting to enable those present to share ideas and be informed of current issues follows this.
A problem-sharing segment and an update of the latest occupational health and safety legislation are key parts of these short meetings. A representative from WorkCover New South Wales is present at the meetings in an advisory capacity to present these legislative updates and answer any problems of those attending.
